ABOUT SKI TRAVEL

DMC Companies Inc. (Ski Travel Unlimited and the Fairfax Surf Shop) has operated high school and college ski/snowboard trips to Canada for over 30 years. Presently, Ski Travel takes students from over 100 high schools in the Washington DC metro area and over 400 colleges all over the eastern part of the United States. Nearly 100,000 students have attended our trips since 1981.

Priding itself as more than a tour company, Ski Travel Unlimited provides its guests with a full event schedule, and our trained staff attends the trips, at no cost, to ensure the quality and logistical excellence of everything it hosts. The meticulous planning and care put into its trips each year continue to make Ski Travel Unlimited the #1 tour operator to Canada on the East Coast.

Recruiting a quality staff is the backbone of Ski Travel's success. As next ski / snowboard season approaches, Ski Travel is reaching out to college students and recent grads who are seeking internships and majoring in Tourism and Events Management, Marketing, Business, Public Relations, Video Production, Graphics/Media, etc. Students from dozens of colleges and universities have been working for Ski Travel since its inception, and have been the forerunners of an incredible opportunity to gain valuable experience in every single aspect of event management from start to finish.

Since the summer of 2007, the Fairfax Surf Shop and Ski Travel have coordinated the annual non-profit event, Skate Fest Fairfax and Sk8 for a Cause to raise money for the Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. Interns will assist in event logistics as well as sponsorship acquisition.

INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION

We are looking for highly motivated students with an interest in Marketing/Events Management/ and Public Relations.

Our company is an exceptional place to gain small business experience and to build your resume. Interns receive a detailed perspective of marketing and event management through hands-on experience and challenging assignments.

The intern will gain valuable insight and experience in event planning with SkateFest and travel coordination for 2014/2015 ski and snowboarding season. They will also assist on trip organization, production, and overall logistics of travel and events. The intern will assist with the public relations for the SkateFest and Sk8 for a Cause event. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to drafting of press releases, contact with media outlets, scheduling of events, signage help, and promotions.

The work environment will be fun and casual, but also challenging and full of learning opportunities. The ideal candidate must be comfortable in dealing with students and vendor companies over the phone and have excellent people skills. Potential candidates must have the ability to work independently or in a team environment to help achieve the overall goals of the company.


EXPERIENCE GAINED

· Reservation Processing
· Direct Mailouts of Roughly 100,000 pcs.
· Dinner Meetings with Student Reps
· Reps recruit other students for the trips
· Maintaining Contact with Various Student Reps
· Rooming Lists for High School & College
· Bus Routes & Pick-up/Drop Off Times
· Ensure Logistical Excellence
· Attending the Trips
· Rooming lists, signage at event, lift tickets, room keys, etc.
· Guest Management
· Attend to Guest Needs
· Event Management
· Manage & Host Various Events at Resort
· Manage Checkout & Departure

 

This internship opportunity is extremely flexible in regards to the work schedule. We understand and respect student's time and importance of classes. The trip is provided at no cost to interns and trip dates are scheduled during winter breaks.
